KIMBERLY LAWRENCE, President/CEO Supermodels Unlimited Magazine
Excerpts from SU Magazine MAR/APR 2008, Will the Real Kimberly Lawrence PLEASE STAND UP, by Andrea Patrick Forte
"As one of the youngest and most successful editors of our time, Kimberly Lawrence is not only a role model, but a friend and mentor
to so many of us out there."
My days usually start pretty early, around 5 in the morning. As soon as I wake up, I take care of my puppies, Snowball and Pebbles,
and my cat, Cosmo. Then I drive forty-five minutes into the office for a good ten-hour plus day, which consists of writing, editing,
meetings, phone calls, emails, press checks and anything else that may pop up throughout the day. By the time I get home, its
already evening and I'm pretty starving. Occasionally I will cook, but more times than not, I order take out. I then have a few hours to
play with Cosmo and the dogs, Work usually follows me home so there are a lot of phone calls and emails still going on after hours. I
conk out around ten; then I'll wake up and do it all over again.
This very magazine and its success is my largest accomplishment.
I admire all of my competitors and all for different reasons. The only thing that I don't admire is any competitor that uses slander and
blackmail as a way of business. I feel that shows very little class and a lot of insecurity.
People in general inspire me. There are so many amazing people in this world and I am fortunate to be in a position where I can meet
a lot of different personalities and learn from them. And, hopefully, I can inspire a few people along the way.
I have always wanted to run a magazine. When I was in the sixth grade, my best childhood friend and I started our own little
photocopied 'magazine' that we distributed to the neighbors that lived on our street. The success was short lived (just a few issues),
but we really went all out with fake lottery numbers, articles on horseback riding, fashion tips, and more. We even set up a 'waiting
room' outside her bed room for potential clients and subscribers. Needless to say, nobody ever showed. I did work hard on those
little 'magazines' and spent many weekends writing poetry for the 'magazine' as well as news scoops. Little did I know what I would
be doing years later as my career.
What drives me is always trying to do better and to outdo myself. I'm not a competitive person as far as others are concerned, but
I'm very competitive with myself. I also love it when people say I can't do something or think I can't do something. I thrive off of that
because the second someone tells me I can't do something, you better bet I will be able to do it and I will do it very well.
(Years from Now), I definitely can't see my life without Supermodels Unlimited. And it only excites me to think where SU will be then.
